What is a vision & mission statment

As Fred says the principal reason for make a mission statement is to define what is our business? This is fundamental since it is possible to say that it is like the philosophy of the company. (Fred, 2011, 13th Edition). The vision statement is what our business wants to become in the future (Fred, 2011, 13th Edition)

Our vision is to become the first option(5) for students(1) in Colombia when buying books(2), by anticipating the most common titles (7), offering competitive prices, digital books formats(4) and low time delivery for phisical editions.

  1. Customer:  It is necessary that the customers are  in the vision due to the fact that thanks to them the company exists.

  2. Product and services: To show what we want to become, we need to specify what we do now, by showing our specific service.

  3. Markets: It is important to include the market in the vision as it will show customers in which territory we operate.

  4. Technology: Technology has influenced the book sector by providing very popular digital copies. Offering this shows adaptability to a changing environment and it gives people the possibility to choose their favorite.

  5. Concern for survival, growth and profitability: In the vision we  specify that we want to grow and become the first company on our market, satisfying our customers and therefore achieving economical benefits.

  6. Philosophy: Since the vision has to be clear and concise, we choose not to include explicit  the philosophy because it is clearly specified in the mission.

  7. Self concept: This aspects differentiates us from the rest so we should emphasize on it

  8. Concern for public image: We think that as a company serving principally to students, we can have a positive public image without explicitly stating our concern.

  9. Concern for employees: As an E-Commerce company, employees are not as tangible in the delivery of our service, so we decided not to include this aspect.
